Writing only the final answer
CBSE uses step marking. On a three- or five-mark question, a correct answer with no working can keep very little. Write the formula, substitute, then simplify, one line at a time.
The strongest CBSE maths preparation runs NCERT first, then NCERT Exemplar, then CBSE's own sample papers, attempted against the clock and checked against the official marking scheme. Most marks are lost to missing steps, unlabelled figures and rushed case studies, not to chapters a student has never seen.
What is ClassArc?

The short answer
CBSE board questions are written from the NCERT textbook, so NCERT is the first thing to finish, every exercise and every solved example. After that come NCERT Exemplar for harder conceptual questions, CBSE sample question papers for the current format, and previous years' papers for timing.
The order matters because each stage exposes something different. NCERT shows whether the chapter is understood; Exemplar tests whether it survives an unfamiliar question; sample papers and their marking schemes show how marks are split between lines of working.
Class 9 and Class 11 exams are set by the school rather than the board, but most schools copy the board format. Practising that format early means Class 10 and Class 12 hold fewer surprises.
The paper
Both board years share the same split: a three-hour written paper out of 80, and 20 marks of internal assessment awarded by the school. What differs is the course choice and the number of attempts.

Revision order
Each stage builds on the one before. Skipping straight to past papers feels productive, but it tests chapters that were never secured.
Checked against an answer key, a sample paper gives you a score. Checked against the marking scheme, it shows you which lines lost the marks.
Why the marking scheme mattersEvery exercise and every solved example in the textbook, chapter by chapter. Board questions lean on NCERT wording and NCERT methods, so this stage is not optional.
Harder, more conceptual questions on the same chapters. This is the best preparation for assertion–reason items and for case studies that disguise a familiar method.
CBSE's sample question papers show the current format. Mark each attempt with the official scheme so your child sees exactly which step carries which mark.
Previous years' board papers, three hours at a time, from roughly two months before the exam. Start with recent years, because older papers can include content that has since been removed.
Where marks go
None of these is about a missing chapter. Each is a habit, and habits are fixable in a few weeks once someone points them out.

Heights-and-distances and circle questions need a labelled diagram, and marking schemes frequently award marks for the figure on its own. A sketch also catches misread angles before they cost the whole question.
Class 10 theorem questions expect Given, To Prove, Construction and Proof, in that order. Leaving out the headings makes a correct argument look incomplete to the person marking it.
A case-study question usually has three or four linked parts built on one scenario. Underline the numbers and what each part asks before starting, because part (c) often depends on part (a).
Mensuration and statistics answers lose marks for a missing cm² or for using 3.14 when the question said 22/7. These are the easiest marks on the paper to keep.
Where the paper offers a choice, pick once and commit. Starting one option and abandoning it for the other burns the minutes that the last section needs.
Class 12 calculus is built on Class 11 functions, trigonometry and limits. Gaps left in Class 11 surface in the Class 12 board paper, when there is least time to repair them.
Where it usually goes wrong Choosing Basic over Standard in Class 10 can narrow the maths options for Class 11. Check the school's current rule before deciding, with Class 11 plans in mind.
From the UAE
CBSE board papers in the UAE follow the Indian timetable, and in recent years papers have started at 10:30 am India time, which is 9:00 am in the UAE. The admit card gives the exact reporting time, which is well before the start.
A 9:00 am paper sits earlier than many students' best working hours. In the final month, sit at least three full papers at 9:00 am on a weekend, so the real exam is not the first time your child has done three hours of maths before lunch.
Check each year's date sheet against the UAE calendar as soon as it is published, since exam dates can fall near public holidays or during Ramadan.
School assessment can also matter more than families expect. In March 2026, amid regional disruption, CBSE cancelled the remaining Class 12 board exams for students in the UAE and six other countries and said results would be declared by a separately notified method (CBSE Circular 6, 15 March 2026). Pre-boards and school tests are worth taking seriously for that reason alone.
