What A$16 a class
actually buys

Every item below applies to every ClassArc class, on every plan, whatever you are paying.

Lesson format
Live, one on one
One teacher, one student. Not a group priced per head, and not a recording.
Lesson length
A full 55 minutes
The full class, every week. Nothing here is sold as an hour and delivered as forty minutes.
Your teacher
The same one each week
Not a marketplace that assigns whoever happens to be free that evening. If the fit is wrong we change the teacher, not the format.
Curriculum
Your state's syllabus
We ask which state and year group before the first class. Australian Curriculum v9.0 as NESA, VCAA, QCAA or SCSA sets it out — not a national average.
Between classes
Homework, set and marked
Tied to that day's class and to the unit coming next. No separate materials fee.
For you
A termly parent meeting
Plus WhatsApp reminders 24 hours and 1 hour before each class, in your local time — AEST, AEDT, ACST or AWST.

What tutoring normally
costs in Australia

Published rates for one-to-one maths tutoring in Australia are commonly quoted between A$55 and A$85 an hour. The Australian Tutoring Association's national average has been reported at around A$64, certified teachers are generally quoted higher again, and senior ATAR subjects usually carry a premium on top. Online tuition is typically quoted A$10 to A$25 below the in-person figure.

ClassArc starts at A$16 a class on the Committed plan and A$20 on Starter, for Foundation to Year 8. Years 9 to 12 run from A$21.50.

Those market figures are published ranges collected from public rate guides and re-checked in August 2026, not a survey we ran. We quote them so you can do the arithmetic yourself rather than take a characterisation from us.

We would rather show you the range and our number than tell you what to conclude from them.

Why we publish the comparison

Our teachers are in India,
and we say so plainly

The honest reason a full 55-minute one-to-one class can be A$16 is that ClassArc's teachers live and work in India, where a good teaching salary costs a great deal less than it does in Sydney or Melbourne. We are not undercutting Australian tutors by paying our own people badly.

We do not simply run the US price through an exchange rate either. The Australian figures are set against what Australian families are actually quoted locally, which is why they come out below a straight conversion rather than above it.

What it does not mean is a cheaper lesson. Same 55 minutes, same one-to-one format, same teacher every week, same classroom software, and the same insistence on teaching your child's actual syllabus rather than a generic one.

Australian maths we support, Foundation to Year 12

Our core is Foundation to Year 10 on the Australian Curriculum as your state teaches it. In the senior years we work from your child's own course outline.

A good fit if you
are looking for

Six things that describe every ClassArc class, so you can tell quickly whether this is the shape of tutoring you want.

A weekly rhythm you can sustain

A price that still makes sense in month nine, not just in the first fortnight. That is what makes tutoring work at all.

One teacher who knows your child

The same person every week, who remembers what was hard in March and can tell you whether it is still hard in June.

Your state's syllabus specifically

NSW, Victoria and Queensland each turn the national curriculum into their own. We ask which before we teach anything.

A lesson, not a helpline

Scheduled classes with a plan, rather than an on-demand chat window for whenever homework goes wrong.

To see it before you pay

A free 55-minute first class in the real classroom, with no card and no obligation.

The ability to stop

No lock-in and no notice period. We refund whatever class balance is left the day you decide to stop.

How the free first class works

You do not pay to find out whether this fits. The first class is a full lesson and costs nothing.

Tell us the state and year

And, for Years 11 and 12, the course name. It takes a minute and it is what lets the teacher prepare properly.

Pick a time that suits

Australian afternoons and evenings, shown in your own time zone. No card is required to book.

🎓

A real 55-minute lesson

Not a sales call. The teacher spends it finding where your child actually is against their syllabus.

Then decide

We tell you what we found. If the teacher was not the right match, the second free class is with a different one.

How much is a maths tutor per hour in Australia?
Published rates for one-to-one maths tutoring are commonly quoted between A$55 and A$85 an hour, with a reported national average near A$64 and certified teachers above that. Online is usually A$10 to A$25 cheaper. ClassArc is A$16 to A$20 a class for Foundation to Year 8 and A$21.50 to A$25.50 for Years 9 to 12, each class a full 55 minutes one-to-one. Market figures are published ranges checked in August 2026.
Why is ClassArc cheaper than an Australian tutor?
Because our teachers live in India, where a good teaching salary costs far less than it does in Australia. We pay them properly; the saving is geographic rather than a cut to what you get. The class is still 55 minutes, one-to-one, with the same teacher weekly, on your state's syllabus.
Are prices really in Australian dollars?
Yes. The plans on this page are charged in AUD. They are round Australian figures set for this market, reviewed quarterly, rather than a live currency conversion that shifts week to week.
Is there a joining fee or a materials fee?
No. The per-class price is the whole price. Homework, marking and the termly parent meeting are included, and there is nothing to buy separately.
What if we stop partway through a plan?
We refund whatever class balance is left. No notice period, no cancellation fee and no questions.
Do senior years cost more?
Yes. Years 9 to 12 run from A$21.50 a class against A$16 for Foundation to Year 8, because senior work needs more preparation between lessons and a teacher confident in the specific course your child is enrolled in.
Can we pay monthly?
Plans are bought as blocks of classes — 8, 24 or 48 — rather than as a monthly subscription, so nothing renews automatically. Buy a smaller block first if you would rather not commit; the per-class price on Starter is higher, and you can move up whenever you like.
Is the first class free even on the smallest plan?
The first class is free before you choose any plan at all. No card, no deposit, and a full 55 minutes.
