What the price includes
Every item below applies to every ClassArc class, on every plan, whatever you are paying.
Prices above are per class in New Zealand dollars. Australian families can see pricing in Australian dollars, and US pricing is on our main pricing page.
The market
Published rates for maths tutoring in New Zealand are commonly quoted between NZ$30 and NZ$45 an hour. Auckland tends to sit at the upper end, smaller centres lower, and senior NCEA or scholarship work is generally quoted above the range.
ClassArc starts at NZ$19.50 a class on the Committed plan and NZ$23.50 on Starter, for Years 1 to 8. Years 9 to 13 run from NZ$26.
Those market figures are published ranges collected from public rate guides and re-checked in August 2026, not a survey we ran. We quote them so you can do the arithmetic yourself rather than take a characterisation from us.
We would rather show you the range and our number than tell you what to conclude from them.
Why we publish the comparisonWhy it costs what it costs
The honest reason a full 55-minute one-to-one class can be NZ$19.50 is that ClassArc's teachers live and work in India, where a good teaching salary costs a great deal less than it does in Auckland or Wellington. We are not undercutting New Zealand tutors by paying our own people badly.
Nor do we simply run the US price through an exchange rate. The New Zealand figures are set against what families here are actually quoted locally, which is why they land below a straight conversion rather than above it.
What it does not mean is a cheaper lesson. Same 55 minutes, same one-to-one format, same teacher every week, same classroom software, and the same insistence on teaching the curriculum your child's school is actually using.
What we teach
The current curriculum describes Years 0–10 in four phases. Years 11–13 sit under NCEA.
Who this suits
Six things that describe every ClassArc class, so you can tell quickly whether this is the shape of tutoring you want.
A price that still makes sense in term four, not just in the first fortnight. That is what makes tutoring work at all.
The same person every week, who remembers what was hard in March and can tell you whether it is still hard in June.
Years 0–10 maths changed in January 2026. We teach the current phases, not the statement they replaced.
Scheduled classes with a plan, rather than an on-demand chat window for whenever homework goes wrong.
A free 55-minute first class in the real classroom, with no card and no obligation.
No lock-in and no notice period. We refund whatever class balance is left the day you decide to stop.
Before you pay anything
You do not pay to find out whether this fits. The first class is a full lesson and costs nothing.
And, for seniors, which NCEA standards they are working towards. It takes a minute and it is what lets the teacher prepare properly.
New Zealand afternoons and evenings, shown in your own time zone. No card is required to book.
Not a sales call. The teacher spends it finding where your child actually is, and which phase that really is.
We tell you what we found. If the teacher was not the right match, the second free class is with a different one.

When you book a demo or sign up for classes, we collect your name, your child's name, email, WhatsApp number, time zone, and the grade you're inquiring about. That's it. We don't ask for or store any payment details on this website. We don't use trackers, cookies for advertising, or third-party analytics that profile you.
Only to schedule and run your classes, send you class reminders, share homework and progress, and answer your questions. We'll reach out by email or WhatsApp, depending on what you tell us works better for you.
Your teacher, and the small team supporting them at ClassArc. We never sell, rent, or share your information with anyone outside ClassArc. We use Formspree to receive form submissions, and standard email and WhatsApp for messaging, nothing else.
We treat any information about your child with extra care. We only collect what we need to teach them well, such as their grade and what they're working on. We never use a child's photo, name, or work in any marketing without the parent's explicit written permission.
You can ask us to show you what we have on file, correct anything inaccurate, or delete your data entirely, at any time. Just email hello@theclassarc.com and we'll handle it within a few days.

ClassArc is a one-on-one online tutoring service. We provide live, scheduled classes between a teacher and a student, along with homework, feedback, and study support.
Each class is 55 minutes. You can reschedule or cancel a class up to 5 minutes before it starts. If you miss a class without notice, we usually credit it back to your balance and reschedule based on what works for the teacher and student.
The first demo class is free, no card required. After that, plans are billed in advance for the number of classes you choose (8, 24, or ~48). We'll send you a payment link directly once you've picked a plan.
If you want to stop classes at any point, we refund whatever class balance is left on your plan. No questions asked, no friction. Refunds are processed within 7 business days.
We expect students and parents to treat teachers with respect, and teachers to do the same. We reserve the right to end the relationship if classes become unsafe, abusive, or disruptive, with a full refund of any unused balance.
If we update these terms, we'll email you before the changes take effect, so you have time to review them.
For anything, email hello@theclassarc.com.
